FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does no FFL mean?

FFL stands for Federal Firearms License. A Federal Firearms License is, “a license in the United States that enables an individual or a company to engage in a business pertaining to the manufacture or importation of firearms and ammunition, or the interstate and intrastate sale of firearms?

To purchase our products, you DO NOT need to have a federal firearms license!

What is the difference between billet and forged?

Billet: A billet aluminum part is created by removing material from a solid piece of aluminum. Our pieces are literally carved out of solid aluminum blocks using one our our Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machines. Machining the aluminum makes for high degrees of precision.

Forged: A forged aluminum part is created by taking a billet block of aluminum and heating it to the point of making it soft enough to mold. One of our custom molds is then used to press the heated billet into a specific form. This is done using a press that can stamp out forged items very fast, with several tons of force.

What type of aluminum are you using?

We use 7075 T6 aircraft/military-grade aluminum. This type of aluminum has a strength comparable to many steels and is one of the highest strength aluminum alloys available, and has good fatigue strength and machinability, but has less resistance to corrosion. Its strength-to weight ratio is excellent and it is ideally for highly stressed parts such as the ones produced by American Made Tactical.
